33rd Poem on Air
The country with the face of its mother
tattooed across its chest searched
for connection like the coiler
of telephone coils unemployed
in the wireless era
The person whose frequent word
was free looked up at the same spot
On the ceiling as the person
whose common word was not
As the performance kicked off
& the subject took the stage
The voluptuous sadness of Friday
was colored by rain
The bearded people turned
to the unbearded people
When diversity equity & inclusion
became unlawful
The subject returned to the park
handcuffed in air littered
with bits of night
The stars outdoors beyond the air
performed a kind of sequined panting
like the subject’s panic dancing
under twisting colored lights
