anxiety sculpture: wallet with a mouth
with a belly, with intestinal lining too—what
do you feed a wallet in need? appetite is a polite
disguise for the ugliness of digestion. acid, enzymes,
yearning, desire. feed the wallet a dollar & watch
the mouth salivate. licking your lips can be a form
of flirtation. what’s unseen clarifies & uglies.
the dollar gets mashed by molars & burns
in the esophagus. the stomach receives so little,
a dollar barely tickles it. barely trickles.
down from the gut comes a growl. more
is the only word this mouth knows. feed it a dollar
& it requests two more. give it a credit card, it quiets,
but only for an hour. consumption begets consumption.
feed the wallet a dream & watch the mouth choke.
