Celebrate Willie Lin, the winner of this year’s Drinking Gourd Poetry Prize, a first-book award for poets of color. Her poems have appeared in Bone BouquetCincinnati ReviewWashington Square Review, and other journals. Judge Chris Abani has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, the PEN/Hemingway Award, the PEN Beyond the Margins Award, the Hurston Wright Award, and a Lannan Literary Fellowship, among many honors. Born in Nigeria, Abani is currently a Board of Trustees Professor of English at Northwestern University. The evening includes a performance by consummate bassist and Shamisen Lute player Tatsu Aoki. Born in Japan into an artisan family, artist, composer, and musician Tatsu Aoki works in a wide range of musical genres including traditional Japanese music, jazz, and experimental.
