Afrizal Malna

Afrizal Malna is an Indonesian poet, playwright, and writer of short stories and essays. His books available in English translation include Document Shredding Museum translated by Daniel Owen (World Poetry Books, 2024) and Morning Slanting to the Right translated by Jorgen Doyle, Hannah Ekin, and Andy Fuller (Reading Sideways Press, 2021). His poetry collection Teman-Temanku dari Atap Bahasa (approximately translated “My Friends from the Roof of Language”) (Lafadl Pustaka, Sleman, Yogyakarta, 2008) was chosen as the best literary work of 2009 by the Indonesian news magazine Tempo

Afrizal Malna’s books of prose include Lubang dari Separuh Langit (approximately translated “A Hole from Half the Sky”) (AKY Press, Akademi Kebudayaan Yogyakarta, 2004) and Seperti sebuah novel yang malas mengisahkan manusia : kumpulan prosa (approximately translated “A Novel Reluctant to Speak of Humans”) (IndonesiaTera, Magelang, 2003). 

Malna has won several national and international honors, including a 2013 Khatulistiwa Award for Best Poetry Anthology. Malna has performed at poetry festivals throughout Asia and Europe.
