Sur écran écrivant regardant
El parcourt, lle revient, défilent

Sort de l’ombre—une réalité
On mesurera sa surface
Pas toute, à parcourir. Lumière

Someone suddenly appears

Rises. Opens window on pines, on palms
Sits down again. A rail of light. Strikes off
The screen careening all seeing
She wanders, she wonders, in passing
Red and flame: t i m e s p r a w l s
Out of the shadows—a reality
We’ll measure its surface
In pieces, to be traveled. Unplanned

Hors de l’ombre—une réalité
Nous mesurerons son étendue
En partie, parcours à venir. Imprévue

Someone appears flickering. Two then
One then two again. She gets up from
The book she’s been reading. Opening
The windows on pine trees and palms
And goes back to her chair. Light trained
To pass through glass, rearranging the view.
One of them ambles, the other rambles, passing
T i m e s p r a w l i n g, warm and pink
Out beyond the shadows—a reality

Lightening the summer morning. Insolent wind turns its

We can only measure by walking
Its entire extent in the strangely bright
