在祖母心中濺起

The calm, 
Cool face of the river
Asked me for a kiss. 

In my medicine cabinet
the winter fly
Has died of old age

The bottoms of my shoes 
     are clean 
From walking in the rain

Useless! Useless! 
—heavy rain driving
into the sea

Among heart-shaped leaves
the white fish gleams, red tail. 
Soft lotuses sleep. 

A blue anchor grains of grit in a tall sky sewing

I inch and only sometimes as far as the twisted pole gone in spare colors

The dishes are dirty
The icebox is empty
I dream of celery and a compass

Even with insects—
some can sing,
    some can’t.

Under the evening moon
the snail
      is stripped to the waist.

Mosquito at my ear—
